3 Simple Ways To Make Your Roofing In Cambridge Last Longer

Apr 03, 2017

A new roof is a big investment. That being the case, you want it to last as long as possible. The good news is that there’s a lot you can do to that end. The longevity of your roofing in Cambridge will be determined in large part by what you do and don’t do over its lifetime.

Let’s assume that prolonging the life of your roof is a priority. Here are three actions you can take that’ll help to ensure it’ll continue to protect your home for many years – and even decades – to come.

#1 – Periodically Clear Off Debris

Moisture is one of the biggest challenges to maximizing the life of your roofing. Cambridge experiences periods of high humidity. It also receives significant rainfall each year.

Debris can cause moisture to collect and pool on your roof. Small piles of leaves, twigs, and branches trap water, and allow it, over time, to seep beneath the sheathing.

Check your roof once a month and clear off any debris you notice.

#2 – Declutter Your Gutters

Your gutters have an important job: to direct water away from your home. When their passages are clear, they’re able to perform that job effectively. But when their passages become clogged with leaves, dirt, and shingle granules, water can back up to the point that it presents a risk to your roof.

Check your gutters once a month. If you notice leaves and small debris, clean them out.

#3 – Create (And Stick To!) A Maintenance Schedule

The most important thing you can do to prolong the life of your roofing in Cambridge is to schedule regular maintenance. You can get away with minimal maintenance if you opt for a metal roof. But other roofing materials, from asphalt to wood, require regular upkeep.

Create a maintenance schedule and perform regular inspections. Check the shingles, and replace those that are broken or cracked. Check the gutters, and remove leaves, branches, and other debris. Also, look for signs of moisture accumulation and leaks.

Once you’ve created this maintenance schedule, stick to it. Or better yet, hire an experienced roofing contractor that can handle the job for you.
